Stained glass courses

Small, friendly classes at my Amerton Farm studio. No experience needed — just closed shoes, your own lunch, and a willingness to have a go. Tea, coffee and biscuits provided. Every class is kept small so everyone gets proper attention — and if only one person books, the class still runs.

I started with evening classes in stained glass in the late 1990s in St Albans, then studied full time at Kensington and Chelsea College (1998–2000), gaining an HND BTEC in 3D Design specialising in glass and silversmithing. From 2005 I worked as designer, painter, maker and advisor in a busy Reading stained glass studio and gained the commercial and architectural experience I needed to set up on my own.

This is an introduction to the copper foil technique invented and made famous by Tiffany.

Learn how to cut glass to a design, how to apply copper foil and how to solder the pieces together to make a complete panel to take home. A choice of designs and all tools and materials will be provided.

Tea, coffee and biscuits will also be available but please bring your own lunch.

Please note that during class you will need to wear closed, sturdy shoes. Classes are kept small to allow students maximum attention.

This is an introduction to the technique of fusing.

The glass is heated in a kiln and melted to create beautiful pieces of art. Learn how to cut glass, use powders, frits, stringers, metal inclusions. You will be given technical instructions about the firing process. Really let your creative side come out!

Tea, coffee and biscuits will also be available but please bring your own lunch.

Half day classes now available.

This is a day for anyone who has completed my intro class and wishes to have another go or improve on any aspect of making a panel.

You can use the designs provided or I can guide you through the design process. If you can let me know when you book what topics you would like me to cover then I will provide everything on the day. These days are arranged on request.

All tools and materials will be provided. Tea, coffee and biscuits will also be available but please bring your own lunch.

Arranged on request and you can book a half day.

During this two day leaded course, you will learn how to cut glass and understand the design process. Including working to a fixed size.

Choose from a selection of designs and begin cutting the glass. You will learn how to construct the panel, and safely handle and solder lead.

The panel will then be cemented to make it weatherproof and carefully cleaned, ready for final polishing.
